Tutoring

JPA offers two regular tutoring programs at various high schools and Hispanic center(s):

El Centro Hispano (ECH)

JPA tutors have been working weekly with Durham County elementary schoolers since fall of 2014. We read them books, help with homework, and provide any type of academic support needed. At the conclusion of each semester, all tutors are invited to the Volunteer Celebration, where we enjoy cultural performances and receive certificates.

NC Society of Hispanic Professionals “¡Gradúate!” Program

¡Gradúate! aims to support, guide, and motivate students during school hours, while providing family workshops to teach parents about school systems and teacher communication. According to NCSHP, “The ultimate goal…is to help Hispanic students attain academic success, graduate from high school, and become the leaders of tomorrow.” JPA members volunteer with ¡Gradúate!’s weekly tutoring sessions and life skills lessons. The program runs year round and takes place:

Mondays and Wednesdays @ Cary High School

Tuesdays and Thursdays @ Millbrook High School

JPA has been working with the ¡Gradúate! program since January 2015.
